Oliver Savariego

Associate Artist
Biography

Oliver Savariego began dancing in Sydney at the age of three, but completed most of his formative training in both contemporary and ballet at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. During his studies here, he trained under Gilli O’Connell, Linda Gamblin, Cathy Goss, Adrian Van Winkelhoff and others. He performed in Beijing, China in 2011, and in 2014 received a medal for outstanding contribution to dance and classical ballet upon graduation.

In 2015, Oliver was accepted into the Pre-Professional Year at Sydney Dance Company. Here he was exposed to the many facets of contemporary dance, and under the direction of Linda Gamblin grew as a dancer, artist and person. Working with artists such as Rafael Bonachela, Gideon Obarzanek, Lisa Griffiths, Sarah Black, Kristina Chan, Dean Walsh and Narelle Benjamin, Oliver developed a keen interest in movement and choreography, which he wants to explore further.

In 2016, Oliver moved to Melbourne to attend the Victorian College of Arts, studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance). So far, he has created new works with Benjamin Hancock and Rochelle Carmichael, and received the Norma De Gruchy Award for Most Talented in Ballet. He is currently in development with Kate Denborough, and will complete his studies at the VCA in 2017.

Oliver will perform in Nude Live at the Art Gallery of NSW from 7-23 January 2017 as part of the Sydney Festival.
