Biography
Born in Dresden, Jürgen Knauer studied composition and viola at the Musikhochschule in Dresden. He completed a Masters in Composition in Berlin in 1973.
He has been a member of the Staatskapelle Dresden as a violist from 1971-2012, continuously composing in that time with a preference towards symphonic and chamber music. His work has been performed by Staatskapelle Dresden and Philharmonie Dresden.
Jurgen is the father of Sydney Dance Company dancer Bernhard Knauer and has composed the music for Bernhard’s first choreographic commission Derived for the Company’s New Breed season.
