Juliette Barton
Perth-born Juliette trained at the Graduate College of Dance with Terri Charlesworth, and went on to graduate from WAAPA with a Bachelor of Performing Arts. Juliette completed an apprenticeship with Diversions Dance Company in Wales before performing for three years with Russell Maliphant Dance Company in London.
Having joined Sydney Dance Company in 2009 Juliette made her choreographic debut with her solo work, Scrutineer, for Sydney Dance Company and Carriageworks’ New Breed season in 2014. Most recently, Juliete choreographed and performed a solo work at the Art Gallery of NSW summer 20/21 Archie Plus program.
Juliette was named in the 2012 Dance Australia Critics’ Survey ‘Most Outstanding Dancer’. She was also nominated for a 2014 Green Room Award for ‘Best Female Dancer’ in Interplay. Juliette was nominated for a Helpmann Award in 2016 in the category of ‘Best Female Dancer’ for Rafael Bonachela’s Lux Tenebris.
As well as countless outstanding performances, at home and abroad, in work by Rafael and many guest choreographers, Juliette also performed in Rafael’s film work, Cuatro, a digital performance and collaboration with Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2020 while theatres across the world were dark.
Beyond the critical acclaim for her performances, Juliette has inspired many young dancers to follow in her footsteps, as teacher and mentor to Pre-Professional Year dancers and students at The McDonald College Senior Contemporary Dance Program, in association with Sydney Dance Company
