Fiona Hill

Composer
Biography

Fiona Hill is a composer specialising in electroacoustics and immersive sound. Drawing on contemporary classical and electronic art music styles, Fiona’s work frequently explores the layering of texture, with a focus on revealing sounds usually inaudible in a purely acoustic setting. Through works such as the acclaimed electroacoustic composition Imago, contemporary dance film Circumstance 2020 and a range of works for orchestra, ensemble and experimental performance, Fiona’s music seeks to find a common emotive language amongst the opposing yet magnetic elements within sound, style, and subject matter. Fiona is winner of BEST SCORE at the Seoul International Short Film Festival (2021) for her work on Circumstance 2020 of which critic Jill Sykes writes “Music composed by Fiona Hill makes an enormous contribution to the result… lt is the best match-making between commissioned music and dance that I have come across in years.” (SMH, 13 Dec 2020). Fiona is a beneficiary of the APRA AGSC Women in Screen Music mentorship (2019), APRA AMCOS Art Music Fund (2018) and Ensemble Offspring’s Noisy Women Commission (2017). Fiona is a PhD candidate at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is a Masters in Screen Composition graduate of the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
