First Nations Voice to Parliament
Sydney Dance Company accepts the invitation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and supports a First Nations Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Australian Constitution.
Our home is on the Lands and over the waters of the Gadigal People, and we pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
Each year we travel to many First Nations Lands, from saltwater to the river plains, rainforests to the mountains, and from the desert to the coastal dunes. We acknowledge and celebrate that each of our performances continue a 65,000 year-old tradition of people gathering on these Lands to explore the stories of our collective humanity through the power of dance.
Sydney Dance Company recognises our First Nations Peoples’ continuing connection to land, water, culture and community. In supporting a First Nations Voice to Parliament, we acknowledge the past and its ongoing impacts for our First Nations Peoples, and support a future which values equity, empowerment and fairness for the world’s oldest living culture.
We offer open hearts and minds to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues and friends as they determine their own pathway. We encourage all individuals within our broad community to listen, learn and educate themselves with care and openness. And, in the spirit of reconciliation, we hope for a conversation built on respect, courage, trust and optimism.
